Research Day is an excellent opportunity to learn about research being conducted in our community. This event includes a poster session, lectures, career panel and Keynote Address by Otis Brawley.
Keynote: “The Evolution of the Cancer Control Movement”
Otis W. Brawley, M.D., F.A.C.P., is the chief medical officer for the American Cancer Society. Dr. Brawley is also currently a professor of hematology, oncology, medicine, and epidemiology at Emory University, Atlanta, GA. He has also served as a medical director of the Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta and deputy director for cancer control at Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University from April of 2001 to November of 2007. Dr. Brawley received his medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. He then completed his internship and residency at University Hospital of Cleveland and went on to pursue his fellowship at the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Brawley has been recognized as a Georgia Cancer Coalition Scholar. He is a fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, a Fellow of the American College of Epidemiology, a Master of the American College of Physicians, and is also a member of the National Academy of Medicine. His work focuses on promoting cancer prevention, early detection, and quality treatment through cancer research and education.
