Workshop: Dual-Use Technologies for Resilience to Emerging Biothreats

-

Location: B01- McCourtney Hall (View on map )

In the wake of growing global health and safety concerns, the workshop aims to address the critical need for agile and resilient responses to emerging biothreats. The idea of “dual-use technology” (e.g., wearable devices, portable sensors, etc.) builds on multiple existing strengths at the university. We believe it can be a powerful catalyst for collaboration among thematic possibilities, such as (1) Agile Resilience to Emergent Biothreats, a concept developed to encompass multiple on-campus synergies, (2) Distributed manufacturing combined with multi-threat medical countermeasures/therapeutics, and (3) Fieldable Devices to Support Personalized Medical Care, targeting approaches capable of supporting military personnel as well as civilians living in rural and low-resource areas.

We are gathering an interdisciplinary group of experts, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners internal and external to ND, to foster dialogue, share insights, and explore innovative strategies for biothreat preparedness and response. The program will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, and interactive sessions involving distinguished speakers and participation by other experts with aligned interests in the field.

We aim to use the ideas that emerge from the workshop to formulate an RFP that will fund multi-PI teams in Fall 2024, giving them the time and resources needed to develop ideas further and strategically synergize with external federal needs. We strongly encourage everyone to attend this workshop as this is an opportunity to shape the BIPH funding RFP for FY24.
