Faculty at the University of Notre Dame are encouraged to apply for a new, competitive funding opportunity from Advanced Diagnostics and Therapeutics (AD&T) to support research into diagnostics or therapeutics for SAR-CoV-2 as well as other concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. EDT.
“The critical role of diagnostics and therapeutics during the pandemic places a special responsibility on the community of researchers within AD&T,” said Paul Bohn, Arthur J. Schmitt Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry and director of AD&T. “This motivated us to restructure our priorities within the initiative, and provide a new funding opportunity to address the challenges SAR-CoV-2 presents.”
Proposals are asked to address the detection, diagnosis, treatment, or prognosis of viral infections, like those caused by SAR-CoV-2. Proposals may also tackle the adventitious pathogens, infections, or complications from COVID-19 or the development of technology that could be used to address ongoing diagnostics and therapeutic issues related to the pandemic.
The grant program will employ a harvest-funding mechanism, which is intended to help faculty researchers build on existing data and technologies and support the rapid progress of promising results to translation or implementation. Therefore, awarded funding should be used as matching grants to projects that are currently supported by extramural funding that received initial support no earlier than July 1, 2017.
AD&T aims to award between six and 10 proposals, having allocated $250,000 for the new grant program.
