The Berthiaume Institute for Precision Health seeks proposals from early-career investigators to support the development of their research programs. This award is designed to empower promising faculty members by providing discretionary funding to advance a research vision that aligns with the BIPH mission.

Unlike project-specific grants, this award focuses on the investigator’s long-term potential and program trajectory. The funds are intended to be flexible, allowing the recipient to pursue new research directions, generate preliminary data, or engage in professional development opportunities, with the goal of advancing an externally visible research program.

Award Information

BIPH anticipates awarding $15,000 in discretionary funds to selected investigators. The funds may be used to support research activities at the faculty member’s discretion, consistent with University policy.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Appointment: Must be an early career untenured faculty member at the University of Notre Dame.

  • Hire Date: Must have been hired on or after July 1, 2022.

Application Procedure

All proposals should be submitted by e-mail to biph@nd.edu as a single PDF file containing all of the elements listed below:

  1. Title Page: Including contact information for the PI and start date at Notre Dame

  2. Two-Page Research Program Vision: Unlike a standard project narrative, this section should focus on your 5-year research vision rather than specific immediate project milestones

    • Summary: A high-level overview of your research identity and thematic focus.

    • Goals: Broad scientific goals for the next five years

    • Alignment: How your program aligns with the mission of the Berthiaume Institute for Precision Health

    • Impact: The potential long-term impact of your research program on human health or biomedical technology

  3. Bibliography: (No page limit)

  4. General Budget Overview: A brief description of how the $15,000 discretionary funds are intended to be used (e.g., student support, equipment, materials, workshop, networking)

  5. Two-Page CV
