The Berthiaume Institute for Precision Health (BIPH) invites nominations for its Undergraduate Summer Fellowship program. This program will support undergraduate students conducting precision health-related research at the University of Notre Dame.

Selected fellows will integrate into a vibrant summer research community, benefiting from a synergy with other on-campus summer undergraduate programs to receive professional development, networking opportunities, and social programming.

Award Information

  • Duration: The fellowship will last for 10 weeks during the summer

  • Programming: Fellows will participate in professional development sessions, seminars, and social activities alongside other fellows from institutes and centers throughout campus.

Eligibility

  • Prior to applying, students must be nominated by a Notre Dame faculty member

  • Projects must be aligned with the BIPH research mission

Application Process

To ensure effective matching between students and host labs, this program requires a two-step application process:

  • Nomination Requirements:

    • Name, affiliation, and email of the undergraduate student

    • Brief project summary (<200 words)

    • Brief recommendation/endorsement of the student (<300 words)

    • Confirmation of mentorship and supporting resources

Step 2 Student Application: Nominated students will be invited to complete a formal application.

  • Application Deadline: March 23, 2026

  • Application Requirements:

    • Research Proposal (maximum 1 page): Description of the proposed research and its relevance to precision health

    • Personal Statement (maximum 1 page): Career goals and alignment with this fellowship

    • CV/Resume (maximum 1 page)

Review & Selection

The Berthiaume Institute aims to support approximately 3–4 students per summer. Selections will be based on the quality of the proposed research, the student's potential for scientific growth, and the strength of the faculty endorsement.
